Playwork unlucky in skills body bid

Both playwork and early years have missed out on securing Government approval for initial bids to have generously-funded organisations oversee their workforce training. Last month the Department for Education and Skills rejected CACHE's bid to be the early years sector's trailblazer Sector Skills Council (SSC) (News, 20/27 December). At that point it looked as if a bid from the sport and leisure national training organisation, SPRITO, which covers playwork, stood a good chance of success. However, it later emerged that the sport and leisure industry had not received the final seal of approval.
