Childminders struck off by Ofsted powers

At least two childminders in England have had their registration withdrawn by Ofsted since its Early Years Directorate took over the registration and inspection of childcare providers last September, following concerns over child protection issues. An Ofsted spokeswoman revealed the Directorate's actions as Linda Bayfield, a childminder in Croydon, Surrey, awaits sentencing for the manslaughter of eight-month-old Joshua Osborne by shaking him in July 2000.
