Funding the obvious

Having read the news of the research carried out on target setting in the early years ('Children gain when they can set targets', 7 December), I'm not sure many of us needed to be told that school policies and teachers' professional knowledge were the crucial elements for children's progress, and that children are adaptable when circumstances are right for their learning. I was also not surprised to read that since the research was carried out during the time of the Desirable Learning Outcomes, which have been replaced by the Early Learning Goals, the researchers have applied for further funding to...
