The latest immunisationstatistics from the NHS show that only 80 per cent of children under two received the MMR vaccine in 2003-04. This represents a 2 per cent drop from the previous year and is well below the peak coverage of 92 per cent achieved in 1995-96. The figure is also considerably lower than the 95 per cent of children who must be vaccinated to provide herd immunity for the whole population.
