Twist and shout

I read with interest Kate Johnson's letter (20 October) about her setting's 'movement area'. I support her initiative and applaud its obvious success in her setting. I'd like to add to that by reiterating the value of outdoor play, particularly for movement and physical play. Outdoors, children can not only move and use their bodies and achieve all the benefits outlined so well by Kate, they can also make a noise - often an integral part of movement play, but not usually acceptable indoors.
