Over half of nursery schools outstanding

Over half of nursery schools inspected by Ofsted in 2004-05 were judged outstanding, in the latest figures revealing that 38 out of the 68 settings inspected (59 per cent) achieved the highest possible grade. Ofsted gave special praise to three nursery schools that had been recognised as outstanding for the third year in a row: Sir James Knott Memorial Nursery in Tynemouth, North Shields; Clervaux Nursery in Jarrow, South Tyneside; and Bognor Regis Nursery in West Sussex.
