Charity chiefs top New Year honours

By Nicole Weinstein, Nursery World, 12 January 2006

Two well-known figures in the childcare sector have been lauded for their work in the New Year Honours list. Roger Singleton, the outgoing chief executive of Barnardo's, received a knighthood upon his retirement last month. Mr Singleton, who joined the charity in 1974 as deputy director of childcare and was appointed chief executive in 1984, said, 'I hope this award also recognises the enormous commitment that Barnardo's staff, volunteers and supporters make to the organisation. It has been a huge privilege for me to lead so many important changes in Barnardo's.'
