'Checklist' fears in EYFS structure

The DfES decision to structure the proposed Early Years Foundation Stage around the six areas of learning has drawn criticism from around the early years sector. One local authority early years adviser, who fears that the proposal for a single birth-to-fives framework could be seen as a 'green light' for some practitioners to resort to checklists for children's attainments, said, 'Trying to make sense of it may be quite overwhelming for the average practitioner.'
