Reporting accidents

I was interested to read the Policies and Procedures article (18 January) on dealing with illness, accidents and medicines within nurseries. However, I was concerned to note that in the section regarding accident policy and procedure there was no reference to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 or the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences regulations 1995. A good policy will ensure there is a suitable system for recording all incidents and that the management review these on a regular basis. It is also important that serious accidents are investigated and lessons learned.
