A child's risk of developing autism could be increased by gene mutations identified by a five-year study of nearly 1,200 families with two or more children. The work of the first part of the Autism Genome Project, linking 120 scientists and 50 institutions worldwide, broadens the list of genes involved in the condition and will allow doctors to screen for autism at an earlier age.
