The Government has given its response to the recommendations for the early years from the Commons Select Committee on Education and Employment (Special Report, 25 January 2001). The response, received when Nursery World was going to press, includes an agreement that levels of qualifications should be raised. It says, 'It is our intention to build on the new national standards by raising overall levels of qualification over time.
