The new Learning and Skills Council this week took over from the Further Education Funding Council and the Training and Enterprise Councils. The LSC, which has 47 local arms across England, will continue to pay funds for childcare students direct to their colleges. FE and sixth-form college teachers will benefit from an extra £65m pay settlement this year, rising to £135m in 2003/04.
