Cautious welcome for vetting system

Childcare organisations have welcomed proposed vetting measures to prevent unsuitable people working with children, but have warned that the Government must ensure adequate funding to make them effective. The proposals for a single, centralised list of those barred from working with children, to be continuously updated, stem from recommendations of the Bichard inquiry into the murder of Soham schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.
