Three-quarters of Britain's primary and nursery schools do not have a specific policy to protect children from sunburn, says new research from Cancer Research UK's SunSmart campaign. Fewer than half of the schools surveyed made sunscreen available to children or installed permanent shade structures. However, more than 90 per cent of schools encouraged children to wear hats in the sun and 81 per cent talked about sun protection in lessons. For information see www.sunsmart.org.uk.
