Early attainment is targeted in reforms

A White Paper on education will include proposals aimed at narrowing the gaps in educational attainment between children from different backgrounds. Speaking at the Institute of Public Policy Research last month, education secretary Ruth Kelly said that a Schools White Paper will be published in the autumn, focusing on 'the opportunity children from different backgrounds have in getting into different schools and on what actually happens within the school'.
