Greater emphasis on joint care and education programmes is helping to improve the attainment levels of young children in literacy and numeracy, a national conference in Edinburgh organised by Learning and Teaching Scotland was told last week. Chief executive Mike Baughan said that Scotland's early years curriculum and its early years provision were highly regarded, laying strong foundations for improving achievement. 'There is now a greater emphasis on joint care and education programmes which will offer greater support to parents of the youngest children.
