Ofsted own goal

Nursery World, 27 October 2005

Last week I was dismayed by new information from Ofsted. Amendments to the regulations and changes to the procedure for ascertaining the suitability of staff in full and sessional day care leave children at greater risk of abuse. Regulations no longer forbid the threat of physical punishment, but persistent threats can constitute emotional abuse and often cause long-term damage. If this isn't bad enough, Ofsted no longer processes DC2s which could reveal 'soft' information not disclosed on a CRB check and employers run a greater risk of employing unsuitable staff.
