The EIS survey

An overwhelming majority of teachers surveyed by the Educational Institute of Scotland are dissatisfied with current arrangements for teaching pupils with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in schools. The EIS survey was sent to every school in Scotland and the return was high, with nearly seven out of ten teachers surveyed indicating that they were dissatisfied. The survey found that teachers, while accepting the underlying principles of inclusion and the provision of mainstream education for all pupils, feel that their commitment is not matched with the necessary resources and they also feel concerned for children who are not benefiting.
