Anne Jarvie
Nursery World,
22 May 2003
Scotland's chief nursing officer Anne Jarvie welcomed statistics suggesting that more mothers are breastfeeding for longer, but warned that there was no room for complacency. Statistics published to coincide with last week's Breastfeeding Awareness Week revealed that in 2002, 37 per cent of women in Scotland were still breastfeeding after six to eight weeks, an increase of 2.6 per cent from 1998. Ms Jarvie said, 'We must build on our progress and ensure that by 2005 at least 50 per cent of all mothers in Scotland are breastfeeding at six weeks.'
