Mother jailed over tax credits
* Childcare tax credit fraud caught out a mother of three who began a 12-month prison sentence last week. Sarah Lacey, 29, of Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, had pleaded guilty to receiving more than £15,000 in tax credits she was not entitled to between November 2000 and November 2001 by claiming her three children were being cared for by childminders. She forged the signatures of childminders on claims submitted to the Inland Revenue.

Between August 1999 and October 2001, Ms Lacey also failed to include the income or details of her partner when she submitted five false claims for Working Families Tax Credit.
