Montessori teaching has been credited with improving attainment levels at Gorton Mount Primary in Manchester, the first state school to use the alternative education method since the 1920s. A snap Ofsted inspection of the Foundation Stage found that most children had higher concentration and perseverance levels and that the Montessori philosophy of limiting resources and activities had apparently resulted in more purposeful learning.
