National Minimum Wage

Nursery World, 30 March 2006

Plans to raise the National Minimum Wage by 30p to £5.35 an hour from October have been welcomed by the Child Poverty Action Group. Chief executive Kate Green said, 'For paid work to be an effective route out of poverty, employers must pay a decent wage, and we look forward to further above-inflation increases in the years ahead.' She pointed out that to meet the low pay threshold of 60 per cent of average earnings, the minimum wage would need to rise to around £6.10 an hour.
