One in four children in Scotland - 240,000 in total - lives in poverty, according to a five-year study. In 1979 only one child in eight lived below the poverty line. Poverty in Scotland 2007 by the Child Poverty Action Group also recorded that nearly a quarter of children in poverty were living in a household where one adult works full-time, and 77,000 children officially recognised as living in poverty do not receive a free school meal.
