Youth Opportunity Cards
Nursery World,
8 March 2007
Children's minister Beverley Hughes said on Monday that Youth Opportunity Cards, which would have rewarded well-behaved teenagers with £25 a week credits to use on sport and leisure activities, have been scrapped. The scheme was launched by Chancellor Gordon Brown a year ago as part of Youth Matters to be piloted among 13- to 19-year-olds for two years. Ms Hughes said, 'Our conclusions are that the costs would far outweigh the money being provided to young people and considerable risks and uncertainties remain.'
