It's hard to remember when a Government appointment was met with quite such an enthusiastic welcome. The news that Lesley Staggs has become the first-ever national director of the Foundation Stage is being praised as a positive and significant move across the early years sector (see News, page 4). Ms Staggs played a vital role in creating the Foundation Stage guidance, which is widely viewed as reflecting best practice in working with three- to five-year-olds. Her new job will include working on the link between the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 - an area that is causing great concern...
