Children with type 2 diabetes

Nursery World, 27 May 2004

The true number of children in the UK who have type 2 diabetes may be going unnoticed, claims a report in this week's BMJ. It said that cases of children with type 2 diabetes had been linked to the rising prevalence of childhood obesity, and 24 per cent of schoolchildren in England had been found to be overweight or obese. On this basis, about 1,400 children in the UK would be currently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and more than 20,000 with impaired glucose intolerance.
