Encouraging lone parents into work by increasing conditions on benefits could lead to improved outcomes for children - but only if jobs are flexible and high-quality childcare is available. Sanctions and Sweeteners, a new report from the Institute of Public Policy Research, says that forcing lone parents into work without improving their skills can lock them into dead-end jobs and poverty.
