John Harris, head of children, schools and families in Hertfordshire, represents both the Association of Directors of Education and Children's Services and the Association of Directors of Social Services on the board of the Children's Workforce Development Council. Reshaping the workforce to meet the demand for 'multi-professional' working outlined in Every Child Matters and the Children Act is already underway in Hertfordshire. He says: 'We have invested quite strongly in continuing professional development for early years staff, including childminders, through Hertfordshire Quality Standards.
