Risk alert for extended schools plan

Teaching unions say that the Government's drive for extended schools, with expanding after-school provision and breakfast clubs, may put children at risk unless more stringent employment safeguards for all staff are put in place. The warning was given by the National Association of Head Teachers and the Secondary Heads Association in their submissions to the Bichard inquiry into the Soham murders by primary school caretaker Ian Huntley.
