In her letter ('Why re-qualify?', 12 February), Angela Beecham stated that anyone who qualified as a childcare professional before the introduction of the Children Act 1989 must re-qualify. This is not the case. However, practice has changed a lot since the early 1980s and people who qualified before the Children Act's introduction must be able to demonstrate that they have kept their professional competencies up to date by taking training courses.
