Every playworker hates to hear this dreaded phrase. Alex Marker looks at some of the reasons behind its utterance, and some stratagems to get around it one of the pleasures of teaching at a youth theatre is that generally all the children participating are there because they want to be. An after-school club is a different animal altogether. It inhabits a bizarre zone that is not quite school and not quite an external club. It has to have rules and structure, but must not seem like a continuation of lessons.
