Going wild!
Wildlife resources previewed by Ruth Thomson
Woodland Scene Kit (£18)
Bring the countryside to life with this exciting new collection of small-world resources from Yellow Door. Items can be bought separately or as a kit, which comprises 15 woodland creatures including foxes, hedgehogs, moles, rabbits, squirrels and various birds and insects (£9), mopani wood (£4), and reindeer moss (£5). Together they can be used to build a rich habitat full of texture and colour that will inspire stories of woodland adventures.
The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel Game (£19.95)
Help Squirrel fill his tree stump with coloured acorns to win the game. Suitable for children aged three to seven, playing two to four at once, and ideal for developing fine motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination, players spin the coloured spinner, squeeze the matching coloured acorns with the 'squirrel squeezers', and place them in their tree stumps.
Forest Nest Box (£22.50)
If you're planning on revamping your outdoor area to attract more birds, then check out the Forest Nest Box, from Wildlife World and available from Playgarden.
Measuring 24.5cm x 25cm x 15.5cm, the nest box is suitable for a wide variety of birds. With the copper hole protector in place, the nest is suitable for bluetits, marshtits, coaltits or wrens. Without it, the hole becomes large enough for great tits, sparrows and the like to enter. Or remove the whole top panel to create an open-fronted box suitable for robins, wagtails or spotted flycatchers.
Playgarden has chosen Wildlife World as its supplier of wildlife products because of its environmental policies. All its products are made of reclaimed or FSC timber. The nest is made from a combination of durable solid cedar, alder and hazel wood, all from managed forests.
