Call for children's centres for young and old to keep centres open

02 February 2011, 12:00am

Local authorities should make better use of resources rather than close down children's centres, the former head of childcare at the London Development Agency has said.

Denise Burke told a London conference, 'Children's Centres: Next Steps', about ways that local authorities could keep settings open with reduced budgets.

Ms Burke is now director of the social enterprise United for All Ages, which wants children's centres to become inter-generational settings to withstand the effect of cuts and to promote integration of different age groups (News, 12 January).
