Win Children's Laureate Anthony Browne's new book in Nursery World's competition

Nursery World has teamed up with publisher Harper Collins to offer ten readers the chance to win a copy of Bear's Magic Pencil, Anthony's Bowne's brilliant new picture book.

The book is a collaboration with ten talented young artists, all under eight, whose drawings appear alongside Mr Browne's.

Children were asked for their ideas about who and what his character Bear would encounter on his travels, following on from the first page he created for a book called Bear's Magic Pencil.

Mr Browne and fellow judges Julia Donaldson, author of The Gruffalo, footballer Theo Walcott and children's TV writer Sarah Ball selected ten winners from more than 1,000 entries to a competition in the Sun newspaper to have their drawings published in the book.

The youngest winner was four-year-old Alfie Graves from Leeds. Alfie impressed judges with his picture of a multi-coloured whale and a bear in a pair of swimming shorts. Another winner was five-year-old Gracie Steele from West Yorkshire, who drew pictures of bees, a snake and a pogo stick.

The Children's Laureate said, 'Sometimes when I visit schools I play a game with the children using a character from some of my early books - a bear who always carries a magic pencil and can draw himself out of trouble. Children love this game and they're very good at it, so I thought it would be perfect for the competition.

'I am very pleased with the result and am delighted to see my drawings alongside the exciting, imaginative work of all the children.'

The book is available from bookshops this month. Royalties from the sale of the books will be donated to the Rainbow Trust children's charity.
