Parents want grandparents close at hand

26 May 2010, 12:00am

Eight in ten parents rely on grandparents for childcare and want them to move closer, according to a survey of 1,550 parents and parents-to-be by property website findaproperty.com.

It found that parents thought the optimum distance to live from grandparents was 28 miles on average. However, 35 per cent of parents said the main drawback of grandparents caring for their children was that they have different rules and standards, and 15 per cent said they disliked the way their parents disciplined their children.
