NVQ 4

I have enquired locally (leeds) about doing an NVQ4 in Managment but didn't realise there was one for Early Years. I was told that I couldn't apply for managment unless I was doing it as part of my job. I work in an educational setting as a nursery nurse but am incharge of students and supervise and advise new staff members. I would value any relevant information regarding Early Years and NVQ's. Thankyou.

You should look on the CACHE website as that was the awarding body I did my NVQ4 with and they will give you further info. There are 3 strands to take and you choose 1 of them, they are Management, Quality Assurance (I think) and I cant remember the other one sorry!!! There are 14 (?) units to do but if you have the assessor award D32/D33 then they are counted as 2 of the units. There were 11 of us started on our course but only 3 finished. From my experience I would say you have to be at some sort of management level in order to be able to collect reliable and authentic evidence. The dissertation which is a BIG reflective unit for the whole of the NVQ4 is counted as one of the units, I found this to be the hardest bit, in fact I failed the dissertation the first time round but was able to resubmit a couple of months later, when I passed, it took 2 years from start to finish and college one night a week for a year, but was definitely worth it. Good luck!

Hi
I used to work for a training provider in the Brighton area in East Sussex which offered NVQ Level 4 in Early Years, and am fairly sure the 3 different areas are Management, Quality Assurance (which is people who are trainers or assessors in early years) and Early Years Practitioner. I think the Early Years Practitioner is aimed at people who either work with the oldest ones in nursery and school aged children.
