if your not confident to go for a senior position in your nursery are you confident to go for a higher level course. If you speak to your manager then they may be able to help you build on your confidence.

Hi,
Yes there is an NVQ4 in childcare management that you can do. I'm actually looking into doing it myself at present.
There is a company you can do it with called smartraining, and you do it in your time and attend one study day on a saturday every month at a centre in a local area (they've got them nationwide). I'll see if I can dig out the number for you.

I mean my manager says i have got more confident but i don't think people would respect me neway, bein above some1 you have previously been below is not an easy task, i have seen it happen already and it is not good no one listens to her and she tries really hard i wouldn't want this, so basically i want to go higher but i am scared too it's partly having the confidence to go 4 a senior position, and it's partly wnating something but i don't even know if there is a level 4 in childcare, with experience i can be a manager with level 3 but can i go higher and how do i do it ? getting over my lack of confidence in my role is going to be a big task, it is the communication with adults i fall on, i want to get over this, so i want to go higher, but i don't have tyhe confidence how will my manager be able to help ?

I was in the same situation as you. I wasn't very confident as a nursery nurse. By two years of qualifying I moved into a senior job supporting the deputy manager. Four months after I took on this role, I covered for the deputy manager for nine months while she was on maternity leave. I went back to being a senior nursery nurse last September and last week just took over the role of deputy manager permanently. The only way (in my experience) to gain the confidence needed in this job is to actually do the job. The more I had to deal with things, the more confident I was at doing it.

i completed my level 4 in childcare and i am now doing my BA (Hons) in Early childhood ctudies. I did the foundation degree in Early years which is level 4 and is very good as you can study while you earn. I say go for the senior position the experience is good and if in doubt apply elsewhere to do the higher position.

Hi so maybe i should apply for a senior position then. I just think you see it will be hard i have been a student at the nursery too you see and been there on placements from college when they employed me i became a nursery nurse. I see myself as equal to everyone and would find it weird being above say a nursery nurse tha i was once below, and would find it very hard to be able to be responsible for telling people what they have to do as i lack confidence ne way, but i will c what is available to me in the place i work.
