A nursery nurse takes herself off to further her qualifications having spent 2 yrs training. She then spends considerable money, time and effort over nex 4 yrs obtainin GCSE maths and a BA Hons in Early Childhood, after 2yrs she receives some LEA funding to continue. She has a husband family mortgage etc and lives in London.1 of her 4 pt time jobs is in school so she opts to try GTP route to teach as paid while learning, but fails, PGCE= £6K bursary but any student loan will be means tested and hubbie wages taken into account. Apart from reduction on poll tax and desire to teach, what incentive is there for her to pursue her ambition?

I know what you are saying, but at least you can hold your head up high and say " look at that! I did it all by myself" I am sure you are disheartened but remeber you are more than half way there and with teacher training you can step on and step off keeping the uni credits you have already achieved to use later if and when you go back to training. Best of Luck, Please don't give up, you have done so much already!!!!

Hi there,
I am stuying in my second year for my BA (hons)early childhood studies. I wanted to go into teaching but those born after 1979 have to have a gcse science which i have not got. Could not cope with doing a gcse alongside the degree. I don't know how you coped with doing both gcse and degree at the same time..

Hiya i have done my childrens care, learning and development level 3 (CCLD) and am currently doing my maths and science GCSEs from home with oxford open learning (distance learning). I will be sitting my exams next year and hopefully will get a C in each. I initially got a D in each a few marks off a C and when i looked into teaching i was told i need to have a C in english which i have and the maths and science to be able to do any degree and so i started the course. But now i have been told i can go do a teaching course that i can do if i already have a CCLD level 3. Anyone know anything about this? is this true? please respond thanks
