Hi Holly
Well I havnt really had much luck getting into private nursuerys,I went for four interveiws two of which told me I wasnt old enough or experienced enough but when ive met the girls the that they have taken on neither are they so I really dont think its a case of what you know (im sure you can know to much and they refue you on that) its wether the interviewer likes you or not (sorry to sound harsh). I mean you would think that the private sector is realy easy to get into as opposed to the council who offer very good opportunities and the interview process is very particular, I go for two council interveiews on one day and get offered both jobs. Anyway these are three bits of advice that thinking back stopped me getting the jobs
1I know this sounds silly but in your trial dont seem to be too confident I wnet back for a trial at one of the jobs, now i had been on supply at a council childrens centre, whose approach to education is rather different to some of the private sector well this one in particular. I was aked to lead an art activity, which I thought I did ok with I did it in the same way that I had done at the childrens centre and I felt was how it was meant to be done, well the manager got very funny with me about it saying that she wanted it done a particular way and she didnt agree in the continours provision model etc.
2 If you intend doing teaching or Early years professional status DONT mention it. I made it quite clear at all my interviews that I intend to do either of these and it puts them off big style
3.This isnt advice realy its just a point about the questions, I found that the private nursuerys asked rather random questions, that needed answering in a particular way that were not realy related to the job. None of the private interveiws I went for asked anything about quality of provision, child protection, every child matters, the Early Years Foundation Stage, in fact anything at all linked to the job.
good luck hope this helps

Hi Holly,
Just be yourself, Relax, show you are keen and have initiative. Make sure you communicate and listen to the children and where possible scaffold their learning.
good luck
