i am interested in all you nursery nurses and assistants out there as to what level of pay you are on.
also what other incentives or benefits do you get,
i believe my nursery business treats my staff well but am always looking for other ideas to motivate.

eg free tea/coffee
free uniforms
flexible working
staff meetings (On pay_
training course (on pay
ideas and input welcomed
extra holiday days as bonus
christmas presents
i also pay well for my area
min wage for level 2 and £5.50 to £6 for level 3
£6.50 to £7.25 for Supervisors like to pay more but cant afford to.
look forward to your response.

Sounds good to me.

Where I work, we get limited uniform but option to buy more.We buy our own tea / coffee. We don't get paid for staff meetings. We pay for our own training courses.
No extra bonuses. We do get wine for Christmas, but nobody likes it.
Pay isn't good, but same as the others in the area, so can't complain.

So it sounds to me as though you are doing well by your staff.

Hi Scarlett,
I too try to do right by my staff. I pay really well for my area (between 5.60-6.00 p/h for level 2 and up to £7.00p/h for Level 3. Supervisor is on £18k salary)
Offer free tea/coffee, if any lunches are left over then they are welcome to it. Bottle of wine at christmas, easter eggs at easter. I paid for a big night out for a chinese meal and paid for drinks all night in the summer. Last week we celebrated our first birthday and i took them all to a health spa and paid for two treatments each for them. At a staff meeting a while back I rewarded particularly good staff with River Island Vouchers to say thank you. We also run an incentive scheme whereby if they go 12 consecutive weeks without phoning in sick then they get an extra days holiday. Uniform is free. I pay for all their training. However I dont pay for staff meetings as i think i do enough quite frankly! The only thing is i still feel that some of them dont realise how good they get it compared to other settings! I know im going to be biased but i think im a really fair person to work for and it really annoys me when people start to take the mickey or come in late. Also, i find that staff have VERY VERY short memories-for example, they were happy enough for me to foot the bill for their big night out drinking in the summer but a couple of weeks later they would be finding something to moan about-like not getting paid for a staff meeting!! I feel like whatever i do, Im always going to be the bad guy!

Hi Scarlett, I give my staff their birthday off over and above their annual entitlement, and if I ask them to work over and above their hours at short notice (ie same day) then I let them book double the time worked, for example if they end up doing an hour extra I let them book 2 hours, but only if it is short notice. I also used to supply goodies for staff meetings till my boss decided we couldn't afford it (rubbish!!) :-)

i like the idea about extra day off for not ringing in sick! i'll borrow that one.

i know what you mean though about taking the mick,
you would think if someone was late then they would say they will make up the extra time later. for eg.

last year i gave them all vouchers for xmas
year before i paid for a meal
year before a taxed bonus
i dont know what to do this year.
do i give them all the same or actually reward those who did an excellent job?

In my setting a level 2 gets 5.35 and level 3 5.75. Our senco gets 6.00 and deputy manager gets 6.40. We get free uniform and staff meetings are paid for. We don't get any bonuses or incentives. Our Christmas meal is paid for by us and training is paid for if it is in work hours, so if training is on a saturday or evening it is not paid. We don't get a christmas bonus and presents bought in by the children are kept by the management unless they are individually addressed to someone.

am suprised at how old fashioned some businesses are, really=== keeping pressies at christmas SCROOGE!
all our presents unless named are put in a pile and they are all shared out equally between every member of the team, which includes me
and the students we have.
we are all off out tonight, i will pay for the drinks, the girls have decided they are paying for the meal as they are all getting bonuses.

thanks girlpower your email did make me laugh. Honestly its not all bad. The wages are about the same in all nurseries in our area. We carry on working there because the staff are great and get on well and we have a lovely bunch of children. The management keeping all the presents is annoying and we kick up a stink but nothing changes. I've spoken to staff from different nurseries and believe me there is worse than ours!!

It is actually illegal not to pay for meetings or at least to offer time off at another time.

I think it depends on what is written in your contract if you are paid for staff meetings.
