The CCLD text book is a good choice as this goes up to 16yrs which you are required to have understanding of for CCLD. Mary Sheridan only goes up to 5yrs but is a good book. When looking in your books you will find after the age of 8yrs development is hard to find this is because after 8 a child does not develop new skills but refines the skills tey already have.

Hi
I am assuming you are doing unit 303?
The best book out at the moment for child Development is by Carolyn Meggit, and it is called Child Developent and Illustrated guide with DVD. It goes from Birth to 16 years and is more current than Mary D Sheridan. Its by Heinemann and the ISBN number is: 978-0-435899-87-5
In unit 303 you will need to link your practice to theory and theory to practice when undertaking observations!
A good book is Understanding Child Development, Linking theory to practice, by Jennie Lindon. Publisher is Hodder Arnold. ISBN: 0-340-88669-2. When undertaking your obs this will help. A good book for learning how to observe children for this unit is "How to Observe Children", By Sheila Riddall-Leech. Heinemann. ISBN: 0-435-40186-6.
I am an NVQ assessor - and these are the books we recommend to our students.
Good luck with your NVQ
