Hi, I agree with Cleebee, most, if not all workplaces with the majority female workers is bitchy. I left a bitchy workplace to try and find somewhere where this did not happen as much but since I have been in a new setting, I have realised that this will happen where ever you work! I try not to get involved but sometimes if your being bitched about, why not bitch back?!? If I have something that i feel needs saying, why not say it to the person's face? obviously so it doesnt cause constant atmosphere but if there all mature adults there then what is said should be forgot about by the next day! x

Thank you for your replies, dont get me wrong the nursery in question is very good and all staff are really good at their jobs. Its very un-nerving and enough to make you paranoid I don't get involved but like you you say its kind of an occupational hazard!

hiya, i was deputy manager in a nursery and found the bitchness terrible. As soon as one person left the room they were in the line of attack. i Tried team building exercises, nights out but the bitchness never failed to come back on monday morning. The bitchness did then develope into staff bullying so a new team was arranged but i see it happening again a remark here and a remark there.

If the management don't try to be 'friends'with their staff hopefully all the bitching can be directed upwards - this makes for a 'them and us' culture but it bonds all the 'us's' together far better than team games unfortunately.
Make sure all the nasty stuff is shouldered by management - hiring, firing, disciplining.

It is quite hard not to 'be friends' with the managment. i worked really hard as a nursery nurse taking the good with the bad. and eventually i got promoted and i still had my old friends. what should i have done? where do my loyalities lie!

Stop the bitching.
You cannot possibly do adequate childcare/devlopment if you indulge in bitching with colleagues. Remember you are teaching the new generation and when they become adults, you would be have beeb seniors. How would you want them to behave towards you?
