I am in the process of starting up my own business and would like to know where you can get hold of example copies of policies and J/D's.
Thanks

you can look on the internet under nursery policies, and pinch other peoples !! Sure start will offer you advice or I'm afraid you are on your own and will have to write them yourself. I have done most of mine twice now from scratch, this is probably the best way then you ensure they meet your settings needs.

Good luck and happy writing.

The Pre-School Learning Alliance have a publication called "Policies and Procedures" in the Business Resources and Publications section of their website. It was recommended to me by a few people who have set up early years settings. It costs about ten pounds and is worth every penny! I adapted their pre-school policies for use in a nursery and they meet OFSTED requirements. You need to adapt the policies to suit your setting but it cuts the workload down massively!! It includes practically every policy required! They also do a brilliant publication for "Pre-Schools as Employers" which I found useful. Again I updated it for use in my day nursery. Hope this helps you! Ive attached the link!

Hi, Nixster,
Just seen your message about writing Policies. The Pre School Learning Alliance have an excellent book with pro forma Policies in them which are Ofsted approved. Also there is a good book called Good Practice in Nursery Management, think its published by Nelson Thornes and with this you get a CD-rom and there are also pro forma policies on there. Hope this helps.

I also use the policies from the Pre-School Learning Alliance (PSLA). They come on disk so make life much easier, just adapt to suit you. They also have a wide range of publications which are very helpful. I would recommend joing the PSLA anyway. Apart from publications you will be assigned someone in your area, a development worker, who will come and visit and be able to offer help and advise.

I set up a pre-school 3yrs ago and found out of everyone my development worker was the only one I could rely on for help and advise. OFSTED are a mixed blessing, getting a simple, staightforward answer quickly is a pipe dream, in my experience. The joining fee is very reasonable and their insurance people are also very good and again very reasonable.

I will second that! The PsLA have been a godsend to me setting up my first day nursery. My local Development Officer constantly calls me to check Im ok and is sooooo helpful! Its really worth looking into joining
