Potty Training

I was wondering if any one had any opinions on potty training as I've heard that girls are easier and faster to train that boys? Is there any truth in this idea?

Would not agree! Have found it depends on the child entirely. Some boys will potty train quickly and soon after 2nd birthday, others will take until nearly 3 years of age. Similarly with girls - it all depends on the nature of the child. Have found a good piece of advice from social worker - get the child involved from the beginning. Take them out and choose their own potty - no one else can use it just them. Also include in the shopping trip are new pants. I know this may not be practical in a nursery but it worked for me personally as a parent and subsequently as a childminder passing on this info to parents. Do include in the process the stuff about cleaning up after themselves - including the potty, washing hands etc. Boys are particularly hard to get a hold of this but little girls love the fussing!

IMHO I found that agreeing with the child that this is what you're (mearning the both of you) are going to do, get rid of the nappies during the day and only use pants. Get plenty of spare clothes (aren't charity shops great!) and go for it. Ask the child regularly if they want to try - eg before going out, just after snack etc. Whatever you do - don't use the pull-up pants...kids just think their nappies and use them as such. Also - summertime with warmer weather is a better time. There must be nothing more uncomfortable than being wet in cold windy weather...brrrr...!!

In my experiences this does seem to be the case. Boys do seem to 'pick it up' later than girls, but obviously every child is treated as an individual and when they are ready they will do it, but only when they are ready!
