Hi jcab,
Try a big cardboard box covered with paper & a numeral on each face. Good for number recognition depending on the age of the children.
A feely bag with numerals made of sandpaper is also fun.You can do this with sandpaper shapes as well.Wooden numbers & shapes can also be hidden in the sand tray for children to find.
What about going for a walk to look for shapes in the environment.

hiya,

Have you tried potato printing? You can carve shapes into the potato to create shape pictures.
Another messy activity which my children really enjoy is spaghetti play. If you put food colouring in the cooking water it dyes the spaghetti. This can be really messy but really allows the children to get stuck in an enjoy the textures.
