Help with research project Men in early years
Help with research project Men in early years
by: magzee - 27-09-08 12:58
I am currently in my final Year of a BA (Hons.) in early years care and education. For my research dissertation I am exploring the question "What strategies would be effective to encourage men to work in the UK childcare sector?" I would like to hear from male early years practitioners who would be willing to complete a questionnaire regarding my research. I would also like the help of any female early years practitioners who have experienced working with male practitioners to completing a questionnaire. I am looking for 10 male and 10 female please.

Hi Magzee,
I've been working in early years care and education for around 9 years now.. Primarily with 3 to 5 yr olds in a nursery setting. Being a man in a female dominated profession took alot of getting used to at first and I've had to overcome quite a few obstacles and snide comments along the way.!
I've also written an assignment on 'Men in childcare and education' and still have my own questionare that I devised for that...
Have a quote for you.. "Men in caring professions are lucky if people simply assume they are gay, if unlucky, that they have darker motives for choosing a caring role" Richard Reeves (2001)
So would be happy to help you out in any way...
Regards,
Nik

Hi Stephen
I have a double view. As a female with QTS status and working in Early Years for past 10 years, but also being part responsible for my son (aged 28) to take up a place at Winchester Uni to do EYPS. This follows a career change after working alongside myself and my staff for a short while.
One of us must be 'odd'
Any use?
Sue
