I think that CCTV in the nursery has lots of advantages, but it does mean that managers can listen in on staff conversations if they want to. What does anyone else think?

Hi. As said before, managers can listen if they wish.
I've known it to be used for this purpose, and believe me, you begin to feel like your in the big brother house!!!!!

What price a kids safety? Besides, what are you talking about that your manager shouldn't hear? I worked for 4 months with a camera pointing straight at me, after the first 1/2 day I was too busy to remember it was there most of the time.

Personally, I'd have hoped that your manager was too busy doing their job than spend time listening to random conversations.

CCTV, especially the new IP Webcams are a very cheap and effective way of increasing the security of the nursery and the safety level of the kids.

It wasn't a nursery I know, but the vulnerability of children was brought back to me this weekend, when I saw on the news about the man who'd put a 14 month girl in the tumble dryer for 2 minutes as a punishment!! She suffered burns and bruises but miraculously was ok.

Went to a child protection course and the leader was dead against it - hackers looking at kids type of thing, but lets face it tv nursery life is dull 99% of the time - the thrill of nappy changing... yeah right.
Can't see any point with audio - so long as the staff aren't verbally abusing children.
But here's one, consider a parent complete with password going online with the office voyeurs to update themselves on children with 'behavioural' issues - "look what child x is up to today" kind of thing....
Don't want nurserycam to end up a type of reality show.

OMG, the world has officially gone mad! So now "looking at kids" is somehow abuse is it? Jeez, if any perv wants to look at kids, he can walk down the high street, turn on the TV or hell, even look out of the window!

Hacking into a nursery webcam (if indeed I could find one on the web) without leaving a internet trail back to my house, would be hard and pointless. The day someone actually does this and is found out, then I'll believe it's an issue.

Until then, it's political correctness gone mad in my opinion!
