Hi there,
If you decide to go and work in a school all new teaching assistants will go through a complete induction program which the materials are provided to local authorities through the DFES.
This is a very comprehensive package and will bring you right up to speed on the all the latest policies procedures, from inclusion to behaviour management to the numeracy and literacy strategy and all sorts of exciting stuff... you can also order these materials for yourself online for free so that might be a good place to start.
As for a refresher course ... im not sure there is one.
