I am in my third year of my Foundation Degree with the open university.
I am finding it okay buthard to motivate myself at the moment, I have just started a new job as an assessor.

I would not like to sound rude but are you all worried about doing assignments? What if you had to do a tradicional degree in teacher training, where assignments are just "pecata minuta" (the tip of the iceberg), and you have to go to lectures 5 days a week for 3 whole years? To me, you would worry about reading, revising, sitting loads of exams (both written and oral) and not having a job.

A colleague of mine is doing a 2 year Foundation degree and sits no exams. Lectures, 1 day a week for 4 hrs. She can work full time and the only thing she does is assigments. Do you think her "work" is commendable as any teacher who has trained in a more traditional and academic way?

This is a reply to Rohan who seems to assume that doing a foundation degree isn't as difficult as a "full time" degree! Try working full time, having children, horses, other commitments also, mortgage to pay and trying to fit in full time study as well after not being in full time education for over 15 years. My partner did his degree at the age of 18, no commitments, it was full time and he had to attend 5 hours of lectures a week - hardly equal. It really annoys me when people don't appreciate the extra effort it involves to fulfill the requirements of these courses and think we don't have a right to moan at times. Also, having already completed a BTEC National Diploma in early years a few years ago part-time, it does seem that you have to repeat yourself time and time again as to do a PGCE you have to have a degree - therefore to poosibly suggest that we don't deserve the same status as a traditionally trained teacher is ludicrous. Some teachers have degrees in subjects that are irrelevant to teaching, do a one year PGCE and then are able to teach whereas some of us have worked with children for years and will have studied for 7 - 8 years when fully qualified - and well deserved it will be. Sorry if you hadn't meant to offend but you hit a raw nerve!

I do not agree with you rohan. I am currently finishing a BA Earl Childhood Studies degree and have friends who do it part time with full time jobs and friends doing the foundation degree. out of us all i think i have it the easiest as i do not have other commintments or a job to worry about. all i seem to do is write assignments. i commend people who do this course and have a job and children

Hey Rohan what you dont seem to realise is that to get on this degree you already have to be qualified in childcare with a number of years experience. You also have to be working full time. Also we take the same time (3years) to get our BA as the full time students. We have to do all our own research as well as keep up with the assignments and as the others say work full time bring up families care for disabled relatives and anything else life throws at us. We are not moaning about it just trying to give each other feedback help and support. Is that a sin???? Anyway if its so easy WHY ARE YOU NOT DOING IT??
