Graduate Leader Fund

Graduate Leader Fund

by: dragon153 - 22-06-08 17:03

I have read so  much over the last few months about the GLF so, when I found out I had been accepted to do a Foundation Degree, I thought that it would fund my course.

Both myself and my manager have contacted out local council regarding funding from the GLF and have been told that they will not be providing funding.

Has anyone else starting the Foundation degree in September had dealings with their local council regarding funding and the GLF?  I really don't know who else to contact regarding getting funding.  Please help!!

My local EY dept will only fund under 25's for this course, but they are happy to fund someone for NVQL3, Foundation Degree and EYFS.

Over 25's can get NO funding which I think is disgusting.

I am going into my second year of the Foundation degree (aged 28) and my council has just said that they will pay for the second year.

However people signing up to the first year, have no guarentee it will be paid for.

I think it just depend where you live and where you are studying

Good luck.

If you are working in full day care, you should be eligible for funding through your early years and childcare service. The government has set a deadline by when all full day care settings should have a graduate leader in place.  It does only apply to full day care at the moment though.

There is funding for "new graduates" i.e. those starting on a degree course, "existing graduates" which is for people who already have a degree who are going for EYPS and is at a lower level, and there is also funding for "home grown" graduates, which is to support experienced level 3 staff to undertake the training needed to qualify for a foundation degree course.

Hi, Busy Bee here.I am a tutor but wish to  take vocational based qualificatioons and have  practice in place.  can  any one tell me  if funding is given to do foundation degree , if it is not a person's first level 4/ 5 qualification, but does not  have a degree. I cannot get this info from  my local children,s service as most of the team are on annual leave at the moment . Thankyou, Regards, BB.X

Hi Busy Bee, I was lucky enough to secure funding for the FD from our LA, I had already received funding for when I did the NVQ4 (though from a different source), our LA wont fund L6 though so I am having to find funding elsewhere for that, fortunately I have a very good employer who has offered to pay for it!

Good luck!

Funding to do the Foundation degree is called the Home Grown Graduate fund (£2k a year) plus the cost of the course (minus £75 which the candidate pays).

When the candidate has the FD, they then get the Graduate Leader fund (I think again £2 - £3k) but not eligible for anymore course.

However, I beleive NDNA along with the OU give a £6k bursay when you do the BA as part of the long validation path for EYPS.

This is all in Bedfordshire so your county may be different but it's worth checking that you are actually asking for the right funding.
